ANNECY, France — Sept. 1, 2011 — Front Porch Digital, the leader in solutions to migrate, manage, and market media content, announced today that Laboratoires Eclair has chosen to upgrade to DIVArchive® for its post-production workflow and archiving requirements. The movie and television facility will link its DIVArchive installation with the full production and post-production environment to streamline workflow, while Laboratoires Eclair customers will also be offered long-term storage services managed with the system.
Based in Epinay-sur-Seine near Paris, Laboratoires Eclair was founded in 1907, making it one of the world’s longest-established cinematographic facilities. In addition to its image-processing work in film and digital laboratories, Laboratoires Eclair also operates a video department. Laboratoires Eclair currently provides post-production on around 100 movies a year, using a centralized digital workflow.
“Our movie work means we have to manage around one petabyte of data every year, and we needed a more robust and efficient system to help us do that,” said Frantz Delbecque, technical director, Laboratoires Eclair. “DIVArchive is the only system that allows us to work easily with an entire movie of 200,000 frames as a single entity, and Front Porch Digital responded to our integration requirements with features that met our needs perfectly.”
Laboratoires Eclair will benefit from DIVArchive 7.0’s ability to store and retrieve complex objects in the form of DPX and DCP files, and from the AXF (Archive eXchange Format) technology developed by Front Porch Digital to protect, preserve, and facilitate the exchange of content among storage systems today and for the future.
DIVArchive was chosen by Laboratoires Eclair for its proven ability to deliver robust performance in demanding and high-profile cinematographic applications around the world, for its handling of complex digital cinema objects, and for key features such as partial restore. Laboratoires Eclair’s in-house R&D team will work closely with Front Porch Digital technicians to ensure tight and effective integration with the facility’s existing proprietary MAM and production tools.
